Nordic corporate governance

Corporate governance in the Nordic shares many similarities, both in legislation and in traditions and generally accepted practices. At the same time, there are some differences between the Nordic corporate governance codes that can cause practical problems for companies with shares listed on several Nordic exchanges and which might make integration of the Nordic capital markets difficult.

In June 2007, therefore, a joint working group was set up for the code management bodies in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It was given the task of analysing similarities and differences between the corporate governance in the different countries and to evaluate the possibilities of greater coordination of self-regulation within the field. The group prepared a general description of corporate governance in the five countries.

During the autumn of 2018, a corresponding working group was reinstated to create a basis for continued discussion on increased Nordic co-ordination of self-regulation within corporate governance. The working group is convened regularly to discuss current issues in Nordic corporate governance. The group has also prepared an updated version of the description of corporate governance in the five countries.
